Status
Myanmar does not have a National Action Plan on Business and Human Rights, nor a formal process to develop one, although in February 2015, the then Economic Adviser to the government of Myanmar, announced the government’s intention to do so.
In 2016, the Myanmar National Human Rights Commission (MNHRC) together with the ASEAN-CSR network and the Union of Myanmar Federation of Chambers of Commerce (UMFCCI) held a consultation workshop focused on NAP development.
On the 7th December 2017 the Alternative ASEAN Network on Burma (ALTSEAN-Burma), a civil society organisation in Myanmar, with support from the International Corporate Accountability Roundtable (ICAR), published a “Shadow” National Baseline Assessment (NBA) of Current Implementation of Business and Human Rights Frameworks in Myanmar. The NBA was the result of a year-long project between ALTSEAN-Burma and ICAR which examines legal and policy gaps and contains concrete recommendations for reform.
The Myanmar Centre for Responsible Business has produced a range of analysis on current policy and legal frameworks relevant to business and human rights.
